In the fall of 2023, I was hired as the associate editor on Ross McElwee’s latest documentary Remake. He originally set out to chronicle a far-fetched Hollywood adaptation of his cult classic Sherman’s March, but the idea of making this film took a sharp turn when Ross’s son Adrian, a frequent fixture of his personal documentaries, died of a fentanyl overdose in 2017. Remake premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2025 where it won the Golden Globes Impact Prize for Documentary and has since played at film festivals all over the world.
